![]() That being said, the development team is working on a way to support older hardware so that you can hear ATSC 3.0 channels, using cloud-based audio transcoding, using licensed hardware. However, an iPhone made in 2018 does not have an AC-4 license, so audio from ATSC 3.0 won't work on that model. This normally happens at the hardware level, so for example, if you buy an iPhone made during or after 2019, then Apple already paid for the AC-4 license. On a technical level, just about any toaster can decode AC-4, but to do it legally one needs a license for the AC-4 technology from Dolby. The big issue is that AC-4 is a licensed technology from Dolby. The "Channels" app for iOS and Android is working with AC-4 audio on many different models, though. Some apps such as VLC and Plex have not added support for AC-4 audio yet. This is also when using the HDHomeRun app. Looking up a device's support for ATMOS is the easiest way to see if it will work. If your playback device supports AC-4 or ATMOS then it should work. Just don't get it with the expectation of watching 4k signals or that the 3.0 channels will be anything better than the 1.0 for the near future.įor more information, find the thread on your market in the forums: įor everyone else unaware of the recent changes to HDHR's product line: So the Flex 4k is great for watching and recording all the OTA channels you want for football or whatever else. ![]() And there are no free ota channels that are broadcasting 4k and there is every indication it will be years before we see it (and when we do it may just be uprezzed 1080 as the workflow/sources are in 7). ![]() Depending on where you are at, they might look a little better but given the fact that they didn't gain any extra bandwidth to broadcast on and still have to broadcast the 1.0 stations, they don't have the space to maximize. As someone else mentione dyou can use channels if you want.īut note that the 3.0 channels are still effectively just beta tests. Plex, and most other, programs are reliant on FFMPEG. It will be a bit before you can record the 3.0 versions due FFMPEG's lack of Dolby AC4 audio support. Plex and the 1.0 versions of the channels will work fine if you get this (assuming you get good enough signal at your house to get OTA). ![]()
